Restoring Lost a Smile through False Teeth

Posted on

Seeing a dentist is one essential health-seeking activity that people engage in. This may be occasioned by damage to natural teeth as a result of gum diseases, tooth decay, injuries and accidents. In these instances, false teeth become necessary. It is also notable that false teeth can be used for cosmetic reasons. Once you visit the dentist, you are provided with the various options at your disposal for the restoration of appearance and health as a result of teeth damage.

Dentures

Dentures are appliances worn to replace lost teeth. In addition to restoring appearance, replacing lost teeth prevents facial muscles from sagging. A person with sagging facial muscles looks older and uglier. When the damaged natural teeth are replaced one is also able to eat and speak well, something most take for granted until a tooth is lost. But what are the options available in case one loses the natural teeth for one reason or another?

A denture can be partial or full. A partial denture is used to fill the spaces created by loss of several teeth and is attached to the natural ones by use of clasps otherwise known as precision attachments. On the other hand, a full denture is used to replace all the teeth on the lower or upper jaw or both. These dentures are made of acrylic. The base of the dentures (also called the plate) is made of either acrylic or metal.  But when are dentures worn?

Types of Dentures

False teeth can be worn either immediately following the loss or removal of natural teeth or weeks after the procedure. Convectional dentures are inserted when the natural teeth have been removed and the gum and other tissues have completely healed. Immediate dentures are inserted just after the natural teeth have been removed. The dentist takes measurements and impressions that will enable proper procedural practice. But are false teeth or dentures comfortable?

Short Discomfort

Like all foreign elements, dentures are uncomfortable and awkward during the first few weeks following the procedure. However, this discomfort is short-lived and if it continues longer, the dentist is usually swift in coming up with a solution. But is it worth the hassle?

Dentures improve the facial appearance and speech. They also enable chewing and eating processes while providing support to the facial muscles. Most importantly, false teeth can improve your social profile and provide you with the much needed and adored radiant smile.

Dentures, therefore, offer an excellent solution to lost natural teeth. They can also be made such that they will look like the original lost natural teeth in individual circumstances.
